| Motorola Joins Forum to Advance IP Technology |

AARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill - March 28, 2005 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) today furthered its commitment to deliver seamless mobility to audiences worldwide by becoming a principal sponsor of the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Center. Motorola will contribute significantly to the forum’s mission to educate the industry, promote SIP standards for Internet Protocol (IP) and accelerate SIP service deployments, as well as become the first sponsor to share its expertise on topics such as IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) technology through new educational webinars on the Center’s web site.
Founded by Ubiquity Software in 2000, the not-for-profit Center provides an average of 55,000 visitors per month with the tools and resources they need to investigate, develop, test and market new technologies based on SIP. This open signaling protocol is aiding the telecommunications industry in merging wireline or wireless communication sessions with the Internet to create a realm of multimedia services for new 3G networks, including video telephony, chat and multimedia conferencing.

| Best Practices for Implementing Advanced Voice Services |
Advanced voice services are almost universally recognized as the path to increasing revenue per subscriber, reducing customer churn, adding new revenue growth and increasing profitability of telecommunications companies and service providers. Carriers and ISPs are increasingly reliant on voice services as a central component of their business model now that dial tone revenues are falling. However, the cost and complexity of developing and deploying advanced voice services into traditional environments has kept many companies from fully capitalizing on this huge opportunity. | SIP skills are key to internet telephony |
Salaries for networking and telecoms specialists with SIP skills are high. What is it?
The key to soft telephony, instant messaging and much else, Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is used for setting up communications sessions between devices on the internet.
SIP is a lightweight client easily embedded in end-user devices, including PCs, personal digital assistants and 3G phones, enabling them to communicate with and provide services to other SIP-enabled devices.
Early adopters concentrated on internet telephony - voice over IP - but quality and reliability were poor and traditional telecoms companies, seeing their infrastructure investment threatened, were resistant.
Now telecoms companies such as Siemens and Nortel are in the vanguard, along with Cisco, Microsoft and a host of start-up companies. Issues such as quality of service and security are being tackled and applications are becoming more sophisticated.
