Wise words

"A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof was to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools."

SIP Technical Overview

A RADVISION Whitepaper The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is a signaling protocol for initiating, managing and terminating voice and video sessions across packet networks. Borrowing from Internet protocols, such as HTTP and SMTP, SIP is text-encoded and highly extensible. SIP can be extended to accommodate features and services such as call control services, mobility and interoperability with existing telephony systems. SIP is being developed by the SIP Working Group, within the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). The protocol is published as RFC 3261. This section describes the key constituents of SIP.

SIP Silent Rejection Service

The second in a series of mini tutorials presented by... SIPKnowledge, Inc.

Motivation:

It is 10pm. Alice is just about getting ready to sleep. It has been two weeks now, since her breakup from Barry. He has been stalking and bothering her since then. Following her to work, calling her to the office all the time and worst of all, interrupting her nights sleep by repetitive annoying calls followed by immediate hang-ups...

Applications for making money and how to deploy them in a safe manner

A review of VON Canada 2005 by Peter Kuciak, Director, Professional Services, Ubiquity Software Corporation.

This is a second year in a row for Jeff Pulver to run VON Canada. The show was quite a bit smaller in comparison to other Pulver events, but the sessions, industry perspectives, side networking opportunities and of course the famous Pulver Conference Party was well worth the trip.

It is clear that VoIP has arrived. Most providers - old and new - have embraced it and have shared the experience this week. It is also clear that the main topic of discussion by providers was: “where are the VoIP applications that I can deploy today”. The vendors on the other hand were discussing their proposed killer apps. The secondary thread that was also the focus was "how to deploy applications in a scalable and secure manner". The days of trials and pilots are being replaced by deployments and revenues. And that is 'a good thing' for all in this industry.
