Be faithful to that which exists nowhere but in yourself - and thus make yourself indispensable. - Andre Gide (1869 - 1951)
| SIP Application Example: Speak Conference Buddy |
A simply brilliant demonstration of how SIP can be used to enhance our communications. Ubiquity has created a proof-of-concept application that runs on the Ubiquity SIP Application Server (hosted on SIP Center) and uses an IM robot, called Conference Buddy to control a conference call from an IM session. Conference Buddy can move seamlessly move participants from an MSN or Windows Live Messenger session to a voice conference call.
You can try it out yourself and read the article on how it works!

Ubiquity Software creators of the most widely adopted standards-based SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) deployment platform, recently announced the release of version 7.1 of its Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Application Server (SIP A/S), which provides significant enhancements for service providers running SIP applications in a production environment. In conjunction with SIP A/S 7.1, Ubiquity also announced enhancements to its standards-based SOOF Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) with the introduction of Open Web Services, a set of SOOF Service Components that provide support for Parlay X.

The animated .swf explanation can be found here >>>
A CODEC-COder-DECoder (also known as an encoder-decoder and COmpression-DECompression system when used in video systems) is a computer chip (semiconductor) processing system. Source codecs are designed specifically for speech, whereas Waveform codecs work well with any type of sound. That is, depending on the audio or voice application would drive the selection of the Source or Waveform CODEC. Compression algorithms operate by sampling voice and quantizing the analog sound into digital values. G.711 is based on traditional Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem that the sampling frequency rate must be at least twice as high as the highest input frequency for the result to closely resemble the original signal. A 4,000 Hz-Hertz voice pattern would be sampled at a rate of 8,000 BPS-Bits Per Second. Read the full article here >>>

Before jumping into the deep end of the pool, an introduction to SIP and SIP Trunking is important. Here's the simplest, fastest definition we can come up with: SIP-Session Initiation Protocol is a "signaling" system for connecting, monitoring and disconnecting connections across the internet. If you prefer, Cisco explains SIP as, "defined by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Request For Comment (RFC) 3261, SIP is a peer-to-peer, multimedia signaling protocol that integrates with other Internet services to deliver rich communications."
